Using the Garden as an outdoor classroom, take advantage of our living library to learn how to identify commonly used desert plants. Insightful horticulturists with deep knowledge of the Garden's collection guide students through making informed plant selections and placements. Ideal for professionals and homeowners, this program is a building block for any desert landscaping or gardening project. Expect to learn about cacti, agaves, yuccas, trees, shrubs, vines, groundcovers, ornamental grasses and bulbs, herbaceous perennials and more.

Installing a sustainable desert landscape requires knowledge about cultural conditions and the proper sequence of installation. In this five-week program, our experts guide you through appropriate methods and progression of building a landscape. Students have the opportunity to install a landscape with City of Scottsdale's Operation Fix It. Learn how to install earthworks, irrigation systems and plants.

Whether you are redesigning an existing landscape or creating a brand new design, it is vital to have sustainability in mind and make use of rainwater and green building materials. Gain practical knowledge of desert soils, hydrology, horticulture and sustainable practices to start creating more resilient and environmentally responsible outdoor spaces. Garden experts offer hands-on lessons covering water harvesting and irrigation in real-life landscaping scenarios that empower students to do it on their own with confidence.
