Art

Be inspired by your imagination and release your creativity by attending art classes at the Garden. Classes are intended to foster your artistic visions and give you the skills to bring them to life. Learn how to turn polished stone shapes into mini works of art by wrapping them in wire patterns. Design the correct way to build a base structure from wire to hold the shaped stone in place. Explore the art of poster design, starting by looking at the rich history of posters, and discussing what makes a poster eye-catching and memorable. Then create your own posters, drawing on cactus and succulents from the Garden for inspiration. Practice composition, color palettes and hand-lettering techniques in a thumbnail sketch, then trace it onto a frame-worthy illustration board with pen, ink and gouache. All materials included. Coiled Agate Basket

Spend two days with Sue Brogdon learning how to weave a coiled basket. This pine needle coiled basket features a Brazilian agate and beads. You will be weaving with longleaf pine needles and wire. Seal the completed basket with a beeswax-paraffin sealant, and then learn to encase agates and other minerals in resin. All materials included. Limit 15.

Aztecs viewed skulls as positive symbols, not only of death, but also of rebirth. Join Cindy Kovack as she teaches traditional skull-portrait painting techniques on a skull-shaped mask.
