Be inspired by your imagination and release your creativity by attending art classes at the Garden. Classes are intended to foster your artistic visions and give you the skills to bring them to life. Each class is designed to be hands-on with individualized instruction. The Garden offers programs in mosaic, gourd art, drawing and painting, bonsai, and jewelry making.


Cholla Earrings

Learn how to create a unique pair of earrings from the lightweight, lacy skeletons of cholla. The woody parts of cholla are beautifully aged and students sand, stain and embellish them with beads. These earrings make a great gift for yourself or someone special for the holidays. No jewelry experience is necessary, but the project does require the ability to use pliers. All materials included. Rain chains are a beautiful and efficient alternative for use in the garden. Instead of water flowing into an sealed downspout, water visibly moves down a rain chain to become an appealing element in a landscape. In this class, you will design and construct your very own rain chain. All materials included. No experience is necessary, but the project does involve using pliers and wire cutters. Prickly-Pear Gourd

Learn multiple techniques to create an asymmetrical gourd vase that features two cutouts enhanced with the inner tissue from the prickly pear cactus and outlined with pygmy date palm. Color your gourds with water-based inks and finish off your gourd lashing a large row of the palm around the rim. Demonstrations will also include how to prepare prickly pear pads for use in art projects and how to line gourds with handmade paper. All materials included. Featured in the Garden's Sonoran Quarterly Gustaf's Field Notes, botanical illustrator Katherine Callingham will guide you from start to finish and enable you to create accurate botanical illustrations of plants. Garden Polymer Clay Jewelry

CANCELLATION POLICY

Program registration may be canceled up to two weeks prior to the start date for a $20 processing fee. If you are unable to attend a class/workshop, you may transfer your registration to an alternate participant with your confirmation. Desert Botanical Garden reserves the right to cancel programs at its discretion. Programs will run as scheduled, regardless of weather, unless participants are contacted directly by Garden staff either by phone or email.
