The Garden offers fun and life-enriching experiences for adults. Get in touch with nature and the desert through photography, culinary, wellness and landscaping experiences. Dig in to classes onsite at the Garden and new this season at off-site venues throughout the Valley.
Gain skills and confidence to get the job done in all aspects of desert landscaping, plus earn a credential after you successfully complete all the certificate programs.
Families engage in hands-on, nature-based experiences in a fun and safe environment, and teachers can participate in professional development opportunities.
Landscape and Gardening
Whether you are new to gardening or want to increase your knowledge, the Garden provides classes that will give you the necessary skills to become a successful low-desert gardener. Landscape and gardening programs cover an array of topics including vegetable gardening, pruning, desert plants, container gardening, sustainable practices and landscape design. Many of the classes are supported with hands-on investigative learning and taught by professionals in the field. Please note, some classes may take place outside Desert Botanical Garden at an off-site location. Be sure to verify class location in the class description before purchasing.

Why are community gardens important and what is the shared benefit? A community garden creates opportunities for people to work together and learn about gardening, promotes healthier lifestyles, produces cleaner environments and generally builds stronger communities. Learn about the steps needed to start a community garden including securing water, choosing in-ground or raised beds, harvest sharing and how to encourage friends and neighbors to join you. Instructed by Mary Lu Nunley, Garden Manager for Mountain View Community Garden and Pierson Community Garden, both operated by Keep Phoenix Beautiful. Join author Janice Cox as she shares tips and recipes on body care and cooking from her workbook “Beautiful Flowers: A Guide and Workbook for Growing, Using and Enjoying Gorgeous Garden Blooms”. CLASS CANCELLATIONS | Desert Botanical Garden reserves the right to cancel programs at its discretion. Programs will run as scheduled, regardless of weather, unless participants are contacted directly by Garden staff. We reserve the right to substitute any instructors.
REFUND POLICY | To receive a refund, you must send a written request at least 14 days before the scheduled date of your class or program.
AGE REQUIREMENTS | Children under 10 may not attend. Ages 10-14 may attend education programs with an adult and both must pay fees. Those 15 and older may attend without an adult.
