The Garden offers fun and life-enriching experiences for adults. Get in touch with nature and the desert through photography, culinary, wellness and landscaping experiences. Dig in to classes onsite at the Garden and new this season at off-site venues throughout the Valley.
Gain skills and confidence to get the job done in all aspects of desert landscaping, plus earn a credential after you successfully complete all the certificate programs.
Families engage in hands-on, nature-based experiences in a fun and safe environment, and teachers can participate in professional development opportunities.
Photography
Whether you are an aspiring photographer or an experienced professional, the Garden provides photography classes for all skill levels taught by qualified professionals. We offer introductory classes that guide beginner photographers to acquire the basic principles and techniques of photography. For the experienced professional, we provide classes that build upon their skills and how to master new techniques. Whatever level of your experience or camera you use, we have a class for you! Many of the classes are supported with hands-on sessions in the Garden's digital classroom, along the Garden's trails or to Arizona destinations. Please note, some classes may take place outside Desert Botanical Garden at an off-site location. Be sure to verify class location in the class description before purchasing.

Learn how to capture reflections in bodies of water and reflective surfaces in the early morning light at Papago Park. Professional photographers Joanne West and John Marino will share techniques that can be applied using any type of camera but DSLR cameras are more suitable. Explore changing perspectives, varying shutter speed and depth of field to create unique photos. Participants need to be familiar with basic camera settings and bring a lens for wide angle and medium telephoto, zoom lenses in range of 24 to 200mm are ideal. Optional helpful accessories tripod, polarizing filter and cell phone. Transportation to the class location is not provided.

Photography: Chihuly in the Desert Exclusive

Gain exclusive photography access to Desert Botanical Garden’s exhibit Chihuly in the Desert before and after the Garden opens to the public. Capture the beauty of Chihuly in the Desert during this exclusive opportunity to take photographs of the art exhibition at sunrise, sunset and under the stars. Photographers with all levels of expertise and equipment can enroll and shoot along the Garden trails, using tripods and having unobstructed views of the installation. A photography instructor will be onsite to answer questions and provide tips.

CLASS CANCELLATIONS | Desert Botanical Garden reserves the right to cancel programs at its discretion. Programs will run as scheduled, regardless of weather, unless participants are contacted directly by Garden staff. We reserve the right to substitute any instructors.
REFUND POLICY | To receive a refund, you must send a written request at least 14 days before the scheduled date of your class or program.
AGE REQUIREMENTS | Children under 10 may not attend. Ages 10-14 may attend education programs with an adult and both must pay fees. Those 15 and older may attend without an adult.
